Victoria Azarenka v Elena Rybakina Head to Head

This will be the first meeting between the two ladies on the WTA Tour.

Azarenka Overcomes Sharma

World No. 15, former world number one, Victoria Azarenka commenced her campaign for a third trophy in Tennis Paradise with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Astra Sharma. It wasn’t the most clinical of the performances as the 32-year-old saw only 49% of her serves deemed legal.

It can, however, be attributed to a bit of rustiness from Azarenka who has had a muted run in her last two tournaments. In Dubai, she fell to Veronika Kudermetova in the first round while in Doha, she withdrew from her second-round fixture against Madison Brengle due to health concerns.

At the start of the season, the 13th-seeded Azarenka was a quarterfinalist in Adelaide and reached the round of 16 in the Melbourne Slam.

A runner-up in last year’s Indian Wells Open, the five-time Grand Slam finalist (two titles, three runner-ups) will be hopeful of delivering a similar result once again. Compared to Rybakina, she has a far superior pedigree and is considerably experienced.

Rybakina, Looking Fit

World No. 20 Elena Rybakina was on the path to crack the top 20 – touching a career-high at the number 12 position only in February.

However, a series of injury and health scares kept her out of contention; Rybakina withdrew from the Sydney Classic and St. Petersburg Open and retired mid-match in round two against Shuai Zhang. All of this followed her runner-up feat in Adelaide 1.

To test the waters, the 22-year-old featured in Qatar Open a few weeks ago but ended up succumbing to Jaqueline Cristian in the first round in straight sets.

With eight career finals already to her name, Rybakina has established herself as a next-generation star capable of going big. However, fitness remains a huge concern for the Kazakh.

With a bye into round two, Rybakina defeated Alison Van Uytvanck 6-1, 7-5 to reach the third round in the BNP Paribas Open 2022. With this, she also made up for her opening-round loss in the competition last October to Yulia Putintseva.

Azarenka v Rybakina Prediction and Tip

Both players have fitness concerns although, Rybakina’s woes may be a bit more serious. Azarenka has got everything she needs to win this one – provided she is in the best of health on Monday. All things considered, she should be able to solve the Rybakina riddle and reach the next round.

Tip: Azarenka to win: 4/7 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
