Swiatek Comes Back Again, Extends Win Streak
World No. 4 Iga Swiatek scored a third comeback win at Indian Wells on Tuesday and extended her winning streak to eight matches, which began at the Qatar Open last month, where she beat Anett Kontaveit for her second WTA 1000 title. Now she seems on course for a third title as she rallied past 2018 finalist Angelique Kerber to earn place in the quarterfinals.
The third seed Pole, who had come back from a set down to beat Ukraine’s Anhelina Kalinina 5-7, 6-0, 6-1 in the second round and then bounced back from a set down to beat Denmark’s Clara Tauson 6-7 (3-7), 6-2, 6-1, needed two hours and 10 minutes to beat the 15th seed German 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 in the fourth round on Tuesday.
The highly competitive match saw Swiatek save nine of 15 break points and convert eight of 12. In all the Polish player won a total of 97 points while the German won 76.
The 20-year-old Swiatek, who won the French Open in 2020, is 17-3 for the season. She began the season with back-to-back semifinal finishes in Adelaide and the Australian Open and then went on to seal her fourth career title in Doha.
Playing in Indian Wells for the second time she will make her last eight debut on Wednesday.

Keys Makes Quick Work of Dart
Madison Keys reached her first Indian Wells quarterfinals in her ninth attempt after she knocked out Britain’s Harriet Dart in straight sets on Tuesday.
After struggling for over the last couple of years, the World no. 29 seems to have found her mojo back as she reached her third quarterfinal of the season. A resurgent Keys had won her sixth career title in Adelaide in January and then reached the semifinals of the Australian Open for the second time in her career.
A couple of first round exits followed in Mexico, but the 2017 U.S. Open finalist regained her form in Indian Wells. Seeded No. 25th in the tournament, Keys had to fight off Japan’s Misaki Doi for a 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 victory in the second round and then eased past compatriot Alison Riske with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 win in the third round.
On Tuesday, Keys overcame Britain’s Dart in just 69 minutes. Keys had a fast start, breaking the Briton twice in claiming the first set in just 27 minutes. The second set was a close one, but keys broke Dart’s serve to love in the ninth game and then sealed the match in the next for a 6-1, 6-4 victory.
