Rafael Nadal v Reilly Opelka Head to Head

Former World No. 1 Rafael Nadal is having himself quite a season. The Spaniard is unbeaten in 17 matches played as of this week; of those, he has lost a set in only five of them.
Despite being 35-years-old, Nadal continues to dominate the tour with absolute finesse. He arrived in the valley after winning the titles at Melbourne 250, Australian Open, and the Acapulco Open.
At the BNP Paribas Open, the number four seed started with a bye into round two. In his opening match, Nadal was pushed to the fence by Sebastian Korda but came back from the brink of defeat with 6-2, 1-6, 7-6(3). In the next match, he made easy work of Dan Evans and prevailed in straight sets.
Nadal is a three-time champion and one-time runner-up at Indian Wells Masters; add to this his 21 major trophies, it is evident that Nadal’s pedigree is inferior to none in the field as he remains one of the top favourites to go the distance this year.

Opelka Stuns Shapovalov
World No. 17 Reilly Opelka is heading into this fixture after upsetting Denis Shapovalov 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-4. In the preceding round, the American dismissed Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets with 6-1, 6-4.
The 24-year-old is enjoying a spectacular season himself; he reached his career-best singles ranking after winning the ATP Dallas and reaching the final in Delray Beach thereafter. Opelka was also a semifinalist in Sydney and has been more or less fairly consistent this season.
Last season, he was also the finalist at the Canadian Masters and one of the elite four in the Italian Open. Although his resume is still a bit thin against the top 10 players, Opelka is quite equipped to put up a fight against Nadal and give him a run for his money.

There is no denying that Nadal is the heavy favourite here; it’s just a matter of how he wins this one. While a straight-set win may seem quite likely, Opelka will fancy his chances of taking it to three sets.
