Iga Swiatek v Maria Sakkari Head to Head
It’s 3-1 to Sakkari although, she lost their most recent meeting in Doha last month in straight sets. Apart from that, the Greek has pretty much prevailed over Swiatek in their three encounters in 2021 (French Open, WTA Ostrava, WTA Finals).

It has been a long journey for Maria Sakkari to reach the biggest singles final of her career. Her last title came in 2019 in Rabat; since then, the current world number six has lost 10 of the 12 semifinals she has featured in on the tour.
The list includes several big events like the French Open, US Open, WTA Finals, WTA Dubai, and the Miami Open. Now, the 26-year-old has got a great opportunity to win this prestigious BNP Paribas Open and enter the top five.
Over the last 10 days or so, Maria Sakkari has played some phenomenal tennis and dispatched the likes of Katerina Siniakova, Petra Kvitova, Daria Saville, and Elena Rybakina – without dropping a single set. In the semifinal, Sakkari knocked out the defending champion Paula Badosa 6-2, 4-6, 6-1.
This also marks the third consecutive semifinal for Sakkari. She reached the final in St. Petersburg but fell to Swiatek in Doha.

Swiatek in her Second Final of 2022
20-year-old Iga Swiatek started the year as World No. 9 – she now finds herself in the top five as the number four player. Following her performance over the last two weeks in Tennis Paradise, she is primed to become No. 2 when the new ranking list is released on Monday.
The Pole achieved this phenomenal feat after reaching the semifinal in three big events – WTA 500 in Adelaide, the Melbourne Slam, and in the Qatar Non-Mandatory where she won the title. She now has a chance to win another WTA 1000 event.
In these heroics, Swiatek has already booted a litany of formidable players like Leylah Fernandez, Victoria Azarenka, Aryna Sabalenka, Maria Sakkari, and Anett Kontaveit. At Indian Wells, she has only built on this further.
Although Swiatek had to come back after losing the first set, it didn’t deter her from making the statement wins. In the opener, she knocked out Anhelina Kalinina 5-7, 6-0, 6-1, and tracked similar wins over Clara Tauson (6-7(3), 6-2, 6-1) and Angelique Kerber (4-6, 6-2, 6-3).
In the quarterfinal, where another three-setter was likely against the resurgent American Madison Keys, Swiatek turned up the heat with 6-1, 6-0.
Then in the semis, Swiatek dismissed the heavy favourite Simona Halep 7-6(6), 6-4 to reach her third WTA 1000 final; the Pole has won the title in her last two times.
Sakkari v Swiatek Prediction and Tip
This match can swing either way, considering how well-matched the two players are. Sakkari has the advantage of being the experienced one while Swiatek is cruising on momentum. We can expect this one to see quite a few games.
