Amanda Anisimova v Shelby Rogers Head to Head

Amanda Anisimova stood on the brink of victory in her second-round match at Indian Wells this past week, but she was overhauled by the tenacious Leylah Fernandez who saved four match points in the second set (including from love 40 on the American’s serve.
That choke was something that Anisimova could not digest and the 20-year-old called it quits before the start of the third set. The conclusive reason for her retirement was illness.
Anisimova should be healthy and ready for the Maimi Open, having spent some quality time with her fellow pros at the opening of Kim Kardashian’s SKIMS Swim pop-up shop in Florida.
The 20-year-old had ended her short-lived partnership with coach Darren Cahill at Indian Wells. The pair of them had only gotten to work together at the start of the season in Australia. But Cahill has explained the move was largely due to his mental exhaustion while traveling and observing the Covid protocols in the past few years.

Rogers Looks For More Comfort On Home Soil
Shelby Rogers would have been keen to avoid facing a countrywoman in the first round. It is never easy playing a fellow American at the Miami Open, and in Rogers’ case, it almost feels like a sentimental occasion.
Ironically, Rogers has a very decent record against fellow Americans. Last year she won about seven matches playing against that lot, garnering big wins over Anisimova and Danielle Collins.
The 29-year-old is playing in her 13th season on the pro tour, but she hasn’t won a WTA title just yet. Rogers is being coached by the former coach of Iga Swiatek, Tomasz Sierzputowski, but their partnership hasn’t quite set the fire blazing.
The pair of them began working together at the Qatar Open, but were made to wait for the first win in over two months. Rogers finally snapped her four-match losing streak in Indian Wrells where she made the third round.

Rogers has actually raised her level of play against high-caliber opponents this year, snatching wins over the likes of Maria Sakkari and Jelena Ostapenko. She looks good value to upstage her young compatriot.
