He might be playing lower-level tournaments and ATP qualifiers because of a fall in his rankings and in recent times that seems to have helped.
Featuring in the Phoenix Challenger in the lead-up to this tournament in Miami, Kudla shocked Richard Gasquet, JJ Wolf and Daniel Altmaier to win the title after having failed to qualify for the Indian Wells Open.
And Kudla then followed it up with a back to back wins in the qualifying rounds here in Miami to reach the main draw, making it seven wins in a row.
The trouble for Kudla is he has won just one main draw match at the highest level this season and that came in early January where he defeated Federico Delbonis in a first round encounter. Since then, Kudla hasn’t made it past the opener.

Juncheng Gunning for Quick Transition
A juniors finalist at the French Open last year, Juncheng has achieved a ranking of world number one at that level and is now gunning for a quick transition to the highest level that will see him start winning.
Having won a Futures title earlier this year, Juncheng qualified for the Indian Wells Open with back to back wins in the pre-tournament qualifiers but Jaume Munar had the better of him very soon after that.
Juncheng also tried to make it through the qualifiers at the Phoenix Challenger last week but was sent packing there as well by Tomas Machac.
