Emilio Gomez v Yoshihito Nishioka Head to Head
The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the 30-year old Ecuadorean and his Japanese opponent, four years younger.

Late Developer Gomez
Gomez is the number one Ecuadorean player, but plays primarily on the Challenger Tour, and his progress up the world rankings has been a slow and gradual one. He only made his Gran Slam debut at the French Open two years ago, and it has taken him until the age of 30 to reach his current carer ranking.
This is his third appearance in the main draw of an ATP event this year, having made the first round of the Australian Open and Delray Beach after qualifying.
It has been the same story in Miami, where he first beat Thiago Augustin Tirante of Argentina, and then, more impressively, Peer Gojowczyk of Germany, a man ranked 45 places above him currently, both in three sets, to earn his shot against Nishioka.

Nishioka Regaining Form on Challenger Tour
A top 50 player just two years ago, Nishioka’s form has dipped to the extent that he is now struggling to stay in the top 100, and, as a result, has to qualify for events where previously he would have earned an automatic invitation.
However, rather than feel sorry for himself, after a disappointing Australian season, he turned to the Challenger tour to find some form with good effect – – he won a tournament in Colombus, and was runner-up in Cleveland.
Back on the main tour, his best result came in Acapulco, where he came through qualifying and then beat Indian Wells winner Taylor Fritz before losing to the world number one Daniil Medvedev.
He failed to qualify in Indian Wells last week, but has had better fortune in Miami, beating first Egor Gerasimov and then Christopher Eubanks of the USA, both in straight sets.
Gomez v Nishioka Prediction and Tip
Although the younger man, Nishioka has far more experience at this level of tennis than Gomez, and will back himself to make the second round.
