Doubles No. 1 Katerina Siniakova is looking to emulate her doubles success on the singles circuit and in all fairness, she has got potential to do so.
Even though she hasn’t made it past the opening rounds on the tour yet, it is worth noting that a good majority of her losses have come at the hands of top 10 players/higher-ranked players.
Case in point, the current World No. 53 fell to Maria Sakkari at Indian Wells most recently and before that, she was downed by Jessica Pegula in Doha.
Similarly, in Dubai and the Australian Open, Siniakova started on a good note but couldn’t quite overcome the big guns like Anett Kontaveit and Garbine Muguruza.
When we look at the 25-year-old’s recent doubles pedigree – stretching across title runs in the Australian Open, WTA Finals, Tokyo Olympics, and French Open – it becomes quite clear that she is more than experienced and competent to deliver similar results one-on-one. Marino Navigates the Qualifiers
31-year-old Rebecca Marino successfully navigated her qualifiers after overcoming Katarina Zavatska and Zhu Lin in Miami.
This marks Marino’s first WTA Tournament since the Australian Open where fell in the opening match to Marie Bouzkova. Since then, the 116th-ranked Canadian has kept herself to the ITF circuit where she has been largely successful.
A semifinal stint in Cancun was followed by three consecutive finals – she went the distance in only one of them.
Clearly, she is well-experienced and has got a fair bit of momentum but the fact that she hasn’t played that much tennis with the elites on the tour may prove to be a hindrance for her. Nonetheless, Siniakova produces a good challenge to make amends for that.

Siniakova will start as the odds-on favourite but Marino’s recent form means she is likely in for a tough match. This can prove to be a long affair but ultimately, the Czech should come out as the winner.
