Kyrgios Coming off Indian Wells Quarter-Final

After his run in Indian Wells, Kyrgios arrives in Miami on the verge of re-entering the top 100, currently at 102 in the ATP rankings.

Kyrgios found himself in the last-8 gunning to become the first Aussie to reach the last-4 since Hewitt. However, Nadal had other ideas defeating Kyrgios in an epic encounter 7-6(0) 5-7 6-4. On his way to the quarters Kyrgios defeated Baez, Delbonis, and Ruud and was then gifted a walkover by Sinner in the round-of-16.

This was just the second event the 26-year-old has played this year after reaching the second round in his only other tournament of 2022, defeating Broady in round one and then losing out to Medvedev 7-6(1) 6-4 4-6 6-2 in the second round.

With none of the big-3 present in the draw, this leaves a question mark over how motivated Kyrgios is to make another deep run in Miami. However, a win over Mannarino would set up a tie with 5th seed Rublev, a high-profile player that Kyrgios would surely like to test himself against.

Mannarino Hoping to Shake off Unexpected Indian Wells Loss

Mannarino has has an impressive start to the year, however, will be disappointed with his early exit in Indian Wells to Nakashima 6-2 7-6(4) and with the Miami draw not being kind to him either, the 2022 sunshine double may be one to forget.

Aside from Indian Wells, Mannarino has posted lots of wins including a fourth-round appearance at the Australian Open, losing to eventual champion Nadal after defeating Mannarino, Hurkacz, Karastev in the opening rounds. In addition, making three quarter-final appearances in Montpellier, Dallas, and Delray Beach.

In Montpellier, Mannarino lost to Zverev after defeating Davidovich Fokina and Goffin in the opening rounds. Dallas witnessed Mannarino defeat Johnson and Nishioka before losing to Opelka. Delray Beach saw the Frenchman defeat Broady and Nakashima before losing to Opelka again.

Kyrgios v Mannarino Prediction and Tip

As is so often the case when Kyrgios steps onto the court, the match is very much on his racket. If Kyrgios can channel the form he displayed in Indian Wells then he is the safe favourite to advance to the next round.

However, with none of the big-3 in the draw, there is no incentive to make a deep run into the tournament, so it will be interesting to see what character steps out onto the court and how much effort he puts into the match.
