Kaia Kanepi v Sara Sorribes Tormo Head to Head
Sara Sorribes Tormo leads the head-to-head 1-0, having defeated Kanepi in their only meeting before this at the 2018 Wimbledon Championships first round.

Kanepi Through After Opponent Retires
Kaia Kanepi doesn’t have a particularly decent record at the Miami Open despite making 11 previous visits to the event and only making the fourth round once.
She entered her first-round match against Belgium’s Maryna Zanevska without a win on these shores since 2015. But following her frenetic start to the season, Kanepi was bound to enjoy a relatively safe passage this time. And that proved to be the case, albeit at the expense of her opponent’s injury.
Kanepi was the dominant player, using her wonderful combination of powerful shots to dictate the match. But she had to overcome a slow start that gave Zanevska an early cushion with a break of serve. However, that 28-year-old Belgian couldn’t fashion any more games on the board as Kanepi romped to take the first set in 39 minutes, 6-2.
Zanevaska opted to retire from the match due to medical reasons, giving Kanepi her eighth win of the year and more importantly a place in the second round at a tournament she has struggled in recent seasons.

Sorribes Tormo Targets Another Deep Run In Miami
Sara Sorribes Tormo received a bye in the first round bye by virtue of being a seeded player. Whether that scenario shifts matters in her favor remains to be seen. Sorribes Tormo is actually the kind of player that needs matches to get in the groove.
The Spaniard reached the quarterfinal 12 months ago in Miami, rounding off one of her best-ever starts to a season. The 25-year-old had already captured a maiden WTA title in Guadalajara and arrived in Florida on the back of a semifinal finish in Monterrey.
Sorribes Tormo laid waste to the likes of Jennifer Brady, Elena Rybakina, and Ons Jabeur en route to the last eight in Miami, and has an uphill task to emulate that feat. The draw this year will not be any easier, and opening up against an in-form Kanepi is not the sort of introduction she had envisaged.
The number 32 seed was soundly beaten by compatriot Paula Badosa in her last match at the Indian Wells tennis garden.
Kanepi v Sorribes Tormo Prediction and Tip
We fancy Kaia Kanepi to keep up her hot start to the year against an opponent who has a slightly quiet season so far.
