Jessica Pegula v Sloane Stephens Head to Head
In their only previous meeting at the 2021 Indian Wells Open, Pegula had screamed past Stephens in straight sets to make it to the third round.

After a third round defeat in Dubai, Pegula would have expected to do a lot better in Indian Wells two weeks but slumped to another loss in the very first match she featured in.
A first round bye at Indian Wells Open was followed by Pegula winning the first set of her second round match against Marie Bouzkova, having gone in at 1/2 favourite odds into that one.
Strangely for Pegula, she fell apart completely after that, winning just two games over the next two sets to crash out of a tournament she had never done too well at.
What she would hope for is a better showing in Miami, where she as a quarterfinalist last year but up against her is a fellow American who can do her bit to surprise her opponents on a given day.

Stephens Rolls Past Udvardy
Things have begun well for Stephens this year despite her early defeats at the Australian Open and Indian Wells Open.
A first round loss at the former to Emma Raducanu was followed by an opening defeat at the hands of Naomi Osaka in Indian Wells but between all that she has managed to win six matches.
Five of them came en route her title win in Guadalajara and the sixth was her opening round victory against Panna Udvardy here in Miami.
In a match lasting an hour and 39 minutes, Stephens won 6-4, 6-3 despite been broken twice in the encounter. She broke her opponent five times to clinch the match with three successive breaks of serves to her name.
It’s going to be a different equation against Pegula but Stephens has the game to trouble her fellow American in this one.
Pegula v Stephens Prediction and Tip
While Pegula is a favourite here, Stephens could make things difficult for her opponent here, and we can expect a tough, three-setter as a result.
