Victoria Azarenka v Ekaterina Alexandrova Head to Head

Number 12 seed Victoria Azarenka hasn’t had the best of the time on the tour in the last few weeks, having lost primarily in the early rounds. She is still in pursuit of her first singles title since the 2020 Cincinnati Open.
Her last tournament was the BNP Paribas Open where she incurred a third-round loss to Elena Rybakina in straight sets. Before this, the former world number one featured in the Middle East events in Dubai and Doha but couldn’t make it deep. While she fell to Veronika Kudermetova in UAE, she withdrew in round two in Doha due to health concerns.
Azarenka’s other highlights of the season entail a fourth-round appearance in the Australian Open and a quarterfinal stint in Adelaide.
Despite being low on momentum, the 32-year-old remains one of the top favourites in the Miami Open. She has won the event thrice while most recently, she made it as far as the round of 16.

Alexandrova Tames Paolini
World No. 54 Ekaterina Alexandrova has lost three of her last four matches on the tour to top 10 players like Simona Halep (round two Indian Wells), Maria Sakkari (round two St. Petersburg), and Garbine Muguruza (round two Sydney International).
Amidst such a scenario, it is difficult to imagine the 27-year-old dispatching Azarenka but this is not to say that she isn’t skilled enough to do so.
The reigning Kremlin Cup runner-up has beaten a few big names last season – notably Aryna Sabalenka, Ons Jabeur, Sakkari, and Halep. Nonetheless, her lack of consistency and momentum does not bode well for her.
To put things in perspective, Alexandrova hasn’t won more than two matches in a tournament since her time in Moscow last October. In fact, in her last 13 tournaments on the WTA Tour, she has achieved this feat just once.
Azarenka v Alexandrova Prediction and Tip
Azarenka will start this match as the favourite and may be challenged by Alexandrova, possibly taking this game to three sets. At the end, she should come out as the winner on account of her superior pedigree and reach the third round.
