Carlos Alcaraz v Marton Fucsovics Head to Head

The pair have played each other once before, at the Winston Salem Open last August, Alcaraz winning in three sets.

Indian Wells Semi-Finalist Alcaraz

Alcaraz’s rise to the very top of the game keeps gathering momentum.

Still only 18, he continues to garner accolades – the youngest to break into the top 100 and then the top 50, the youngest ATP finalist, and the youngest to reach the quarter-finals of the US Open.

And he shows no signs of slowing down. At the Rio Open, he won his second career title, and became the youngest player ever to win an ATP 500 title, entering the top 20 for the first time.

From there he went to Indian Wells, where he reached the semi-final of a Masters for the first time, beating Roberto Batuista-Agut and the defending champion Cameron Norrie in the process.

He then met Rafael Nadal in what was billed as a Master v Apprentice clash – Alcaraz is widely tipped to inherit Nadal’s crown as Spanish, and perhaps, world number one. The teenager lost to his compatriot, but he took him to three sets.

It seems only a matter of time before he wins one of the game’s major titles.

Fucsovics Consistent but not Spectacular

Fucsovics reached the third round in Miami last year, the best he has managed in any Masters event in his career.

A year ago he reached the last of his three senior finals and has been largely hovering around the same place in the world rankings ever since, seldom suffering any surprise defeats in tournaments, but rarely going deep into them either.

Two quarter-finals in Rotterdam and Doha is the best he has managed so far.

He uas at least done better this time than he managed in Indian Wells where he was beaten in the first round by Mackenzie McDonald of the USA.

Drawn against another American, Marcos Giron, the world number 52, he forced an early break, only to then drop his serve in turn. However, he rallied, and another break enabled him to close out the set.

One further break of serve midway through the second set was enough for the Hungarian to book his passage into the second round.

Alcaraz v Fucsovics Prediction and Tip

It would be a major turn up for the books if the Hungarian were to win this match against arguably the biggest rising star in the game right now.
