Anhelina Kalinina v Beatriz Haddad Maia Head to Head

Anhelina Kalinina will be pleased with her second-round victory over Madison Keys in Miami. The 25-year-old Ukrainian took the match 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 – much like her first-round victory over Ekaterine Gorgodze (6-2, 3-6, 6-3).
This is only her first time in the Miami Open and for her to make it this far is certainly a commendable feat. It is also her best singles result of 2022.
Up until now, Kalinina had greatly struggled to bag successive wins in a tournament this year. In Melbourne, Adelaide, and Indian Wells, the #51-ranked player couldn’t make it past the opening stages.
That said, she did enjoy a terrific spell last year when she bagged five ITF titles and her maiden WTA runner-up feat in Budapest. On the back of these wins, she cracked the top 100.

Maia Stuns Sakkari
Beatriz Haddad Maia also had a great start in Miami as she just knocked out the blazing, in-form Greek Maria Sakkari 4-6, 6-1, 6-2. This victory follows her straight-set win over Nuria Parrizas Diaz in round one.
Maia’s journey on the tour has been quite similar to Kalinina’s; she also won five ITF titles last year. However, the Brazilian has been slightly more consistent with her performance on the whole.
Currently ranked World No. 62, her best results of the season include a semifinal appearance in the Monterrey Open and a couple of second-round stints in the Australian Open and Indian Wells. Maia also reached the women’s doubles final in the Melbourne Slam with Anna Dalinina but lost to the pairing of Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova in the final.
Maia v Kalinina Prediction and Tip
There is not a whole lot that separates the two athletes. They are coming off a similar run and have dismissed big names in round two. They are also on the same spectrum in terms of experience and pedigree, making this a fixture that can swing either way.
However, we can certainly expect this match to be a long affair before we see a final winner.
