After breaking out officially last year Cameron Norrie is finding life on Tour rather comfortable. The British player has not had any breakout success this year but he is firmly continuing to progress at a steady pace. The top 10 is not far and the Brit keeps on playing good tennis and winning matches.
He is 13-7 on the year which is not brilliant but not bad either and for the most part, he wins a couple of matches every event before he loses out to a better player. In Indian Wells, it was Carlos Alcaraz who defeated him in a closely contested match where Norrie had his chances.
Miami plays similarly to Indian Wells and it allows him to play a style that is quite physical. He is in peak shape and that is not troubling for him. He can wear down opponents and that will suit him well against Gaston who prefers to keep points short.

Gaston Taking Advantage of the Draw
Hugo Gaston played at the Next Gen ATP Finals last year and he showed he belongs. The French player calls clay home but is capable of playing rather well in different types of conditions. He can play well on fast courts as well as slow hard courts.
His run in Miami comes thanks to a favourable draw where he got youngster Emilio Nava in the first round and John Isner in the 2nd round. Gaston likes to play with a lot of variety going for many drop shots and lobs which completely destroyed Isner.
Things will be different against Norrie as the British player is more mobile on the court. He will need to be perfect to win the match hand and that’s a very tough ask.
Norrie v Gaston Prediction and Tip
Norrie and Gaston never played against each other but they will be familiar with the type of tennis each of them plays. Norrie has a clear advantage in virtually most aspects of the match but he will need to be alert as Gaston will try a lot of trickery.
There is no clear route to victory for Gaston expect that he will need to be very good overall. His serve will be crucial as he can serve it rather precisely towards the corner which could give him some free points. There won’t be a lot of them as Norrie gives nothing away but it’s something he can exploit.
Overall I just think that Norrie is the far better player at the moment and he should eventually find a way to win. Could be close but I see Norrie coming out on top.
