Iga Swiatek v Jessica Pegula Head to Head

It’s 1-0 to Pegula whose win over Swiatek came in the 2019 edition of WTA Washington DC in three sets.

Swiatek Close to a Rare Sunshine Doubles

Iga Swiatek continued her menacing run in the Miami Open with a 6-3, 6-3 win over former world number two Petra Kvitova in the quarterfinal.

The number two seed has continued in the same form from Indian Wells and dismissed Viktorija Golubic, Madison Brengle, and Cori Gauff in straight sets – without breaking a sweat.

Following the shock retirement of Ashleigh Barty from professional tennis, World No. 2 Iga Swiatek is set to become the top-ranked player on WTA Tour when the new rankings are released on Monday.

Even if that weren’t the case, it was just a matter of time for the 20-year-old Pole before reached the number one spot. Her record for the year – including her heroics in the Miami Open – stands at 24-3 with two singles titles (Indian Wells and WTA Doha) and two semifinal feats in Australian tournaments.

Swiatek has simply swept aside her competition in great style, dispatching the likes of Maria Sakkari, Aryna Sabalenka, Simona Halep, Anett Kontaveit, Madison Keys, and Angelique Kerber in the last couple of months.

Two more wins and Swiatek becomes only the fourth woman to have achieved a Sunshine Doubles; Victoria Azarenka did it last in 2016.

Pegula Benefits from Badosa’s Retirement

Set to compete in only the second WTA 1000 semifinal of her career, Jessica Pegula has had a comfortable journey to the final four in Miami. The last time she reached this stage was in Montreal at the National Bank Open.

In the quarters, her opponent Paula Badosa retired early after trailing 1-4 in the first set – thus giving the American a walkover into the semis. It was the same story in the quarterfinal too, where she took a 6-0 lead over Anhelina Kalinina in the first set before the Ukrainian retired with an injury.

Before this, the number 16 seed dismissed Sloane Stephens and Elena Rybakina in straight sets.

Since reaching the quarterfinal at the Australian Open in January, World No. 21 Jessica Pegula had the misfortune of incurring early defeats in her next three tournaments.

Two of those can be excused seeing that they came at the hands of top 10 players like Maria Sakkari and Ons Jabeur, but the first-round loss to Marie Bouzkova in Tennis Paradise was a bitter pill to swallow. Nonetheless, she has redeemed herself in Miami.

Swiatek v Pegula Prediction and Tip

This one has Swiatek written all over it. Pegula, on her part, can put up a good fight and give the Pole a run for her money. Ultimately, Swiatek is better suited here to reach the final. After all, she has been far more consistent than anyone else on the tour.
