Casper Ruud v Carlos Alcaraz Head to Head

This will be the second meeting between the players. Their only meeting was on the clay courts of Marbella in 2021, which Alcaraz won in straight sets.

Ruud In Debut Masters 1000 Final

It was a mixed season for the Norwegian Casper Ruud coming to Miami, with him pulling out of the Aussie Open and the ATP 500 in Rio, but winning the title in Argentina before losing out in the third round of Indian Wells to Nick Kyrgios.

Casper Ruud won his first ever main draw match at the Miami Masters last week against Henri Laaksonen and has gone from strength to strength since on these Florida hard courts.

The Norwegian prevailed over Alexander Bublik and Cameron Norrie convincingly to set up a quarter-final against 2021 ATP Tour Finals winner Alexander Zverev.

Ruud surprised all by pushing Zverev to the brink early on, and despite a second set lapse, he came back strong to prevail in a decider.

Playing  surprise semi-finalist Francisco Cerundolo of Argentina, Ruud was off to a tight start but eased into the match soon, and once he won the first set 6-4, there was no looking back.

The number six seed upped the ante to win the second set 6-1 and book himself a place in his first ever Masters 1000 final.

Alcaraz In Nadal’s Footsteps

Spanish teenager Carlos Alcaraz has continued his good run from 2021 into this season.

Winning his first ATP 500 on the clay courts of Rio, and breaking into the top 20 in the ATP rankings for the first time, the Spaniard had a good run in Indian Wells last fortnight. Alcaraz made the semi-finals and lost to Rafael Nadal in an almost three hour seesaw battle of inches.

Alcaraz continued the level here in Miami since his opener against Marton Fucsovics and has kept it going since. With a victory against 2014 US Open winner Marin Cilic to follow, the Spaniard set up an exciting fourth round encounter with Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece.

Coming back from 2-5 down in the first set, it was a scintillating display to win in straight sets by Alcaraz.

In his quarter-final against Miomir Kecmanovic, it was another majestic display by Alcaraz. Dropping the first set in a close tie-break, Alcaraz won a convincing second set and then came back from minibreak down twice in the decider to prevail and make back-to-back Masters 1000 semi-finals.

The rising Spaniard teenager played defending champion Hubert Hurkacz in the semis and was well prepared for what was going to be a challenge with the big Pole’s serve.

Alcaraz prevailed in two tie breaks for another impressive win and become the second youngest after Rafael Nadal to make a Masters 1000 title round.

A win on Sunday will make him the youngest winner of a Masters 1000 level title.

Ruud v Alcaraz Prediction and Tip

A lot to play for both players here on Sunday. While Ruud has continued to get more impressive especially outside of clay, the young Spaniard has been sensational this week.

Expect Alcaraz to become the youngest ever to win a Masters 1000 title.
