Belinda Bencic v Linda Fruhvirtova Head to Head

She was 1/10 favourite to come through her first round encounter but Bencic looked to be staring down the wrong end of the barrel at one stage.
Taking on Xiyu Wang in her opener, Bencic was 4-6, 3-5 down to her Chinese opponent before mounting a comeback and completing her victory in two hours and 28 minutes.
Bencic won a cagey second set tie-breaker before completing a 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-3 win against Wang, with her three breaks of serves edging out her opponent’s two.
The Swiss player had come into the tournament on the back of a confidence-boosting showing in Miami where she had made the semifinals. It was only a comeback from behind win for Naomi Osaka that stopped Bencic right in her tracks but playing on clay would have been a different kettle of fish.
Her record on red dirt hasn’t always been the best with finishing the previous season 5-5 on that surface.

Fruhvirtova Makes Comeback Win
She is all of 16 years of age but Fruhvirtova has already shown she belongs to this stage.
Playing on the ITF circuit till as recently as February this year, Fruhvirtova had entered the Indian Wells Open on the back of a title win in Cancun but lost in the qualifiers there.
Getting a wildcard for Miami after that, Fruhvirtova justified the organisers’ faith in her ability by overcoming Danka Kovinic, Elise Mertens and Victoria Azarenka to move into the fourth round of that tournament.
She moved up from outside 300 on the world rankings charts to 188th right now and started off her campaign here on clay with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 win over Ana Konjuh.
In a match which lasted nearly an hour and 50 minutes, Konjuh was broken once in the first set but other than that was pretty much on top of her game.
Bencic could be a more difficult opponent to face but Fruhvirtova could give her a scare.
