Laslo Djere v Malek Jaziri Head to Head

The pair have played each other twice before on the senior tour, both on clay. Jaziri won in Istanbul in 2018, but Djere got his revenge a year later in Sao Paolo.

In addition, there have been two meetings on the Challenger tour on indoor hard courts, Djere winning on each occasion.

Djere Makes Comfortable Start in Casablanca

Like his opponent, Djere also faced a Czech opponent in the first round, in the form of Jiri Lehecka, the world number 98.

It proved to be a comfortable start for the Serb, who was able to play himself into some form after what had been a difficult recent run.

He began strongly, winning his opening service game to love, and then breaking Lehecka. There was a temporary setback when he was broken in turn to love, but he shrugged that off and, when the Czech served to stay in the set, he broke him once more.

Lehecka had brief hope when he broke Djere at the start of the second set, but promptly dropped his own serve again, and then, serving to stay in the match, he was broken again.

Jaziri Makes Rare Second Round Appearance

The veteran Tunisian player Jaziri was only offered a place in the main draw in Casablanca to guarantee North African interest in the tournament, but now he finds himself in the second round of an ATP event for the first time since Dubai last year.

He owes his progress, though, to a small slice of good fortune.

Drawn in the first round against Jiri Vesely of the Czech Republic, the man who beat Novak Djokovic in Dubai in February en route to the final, he began well, breaking the world number 65 in his opening service game.

However, he could not hold on to the advantage, Vesely levelled, and went on to win the subsequent tie-break.

Jaziri, though, showed all his fighting qualities, recovering from an early dropped serve in the second set with two breaks of his own, and then underlining that with a  further break to take the match into a third set.

The Tunisian then went a break up when Vesely was forced to retire injured.

Djere v Jaziri Prediction and Tip

With nearly 300 places separating their world rankings, Djere will start the overwhelming favourite for this match.
