Fritz Kick-Starts Clay Campaign
It’s taken a while coming but Fritz has finally moved to clay and will be playing his first match on this surface since last year’s French Open in June. And his very evident dislike for red dirt can be seen from what his record shows.
Last year he played just nine matches on clay and won only four.
In the season before that, Fritz was involved in five such encounters, winning a mere two.
Overall, spread across different circuits and tournaments, Fritz’s record on clay is a measely 38-33 – hardly anything to write home about for a player ranked 13th in the world.
On the other hand, confidence is a wonderful thing and that’s what Fritz seems to be having a lot of this season.
He has already won a title in 2022 and it came at the Indian Wells Masters – a stunning performance that propelled him past Andrey Rublev and Rafael Nadal to help lift the trophy.
Can he use that showing into a nitro-boost of sorts heading into the clay season?

Tabilo Eases Past Harrison
Contrast Fritz’s record on clay with Tabilo’s love for the same surface and the difference in their ranking might not count for a lot heading into this match.
Tabilo, who routed Christian Harrison in straight sets in the first round, winning 6-1, 6-4, is coming off three solid performances on this surface.
As a qualifier in Cordoba, Tabilo stunned Diego Schwartzman to make it to the final of that tournament – his first ever ATP final. A first round loss in Buenos Aires followed soon after but at his home tournament in Santiago, Tabilo was at it again by getting to the semifinal there.
A couple of weeks later, Tabilo also participated in the Santiago Challenger where he reached the final before going down to Hugo Dellien.
He now takes on a player who is ranked 87 places above him but as far as clay pedigree goes, there might not be much to choose between the two.
Fritz v Tabilo Prediction and Tip
As mentioned above, not much to choose between the two players with Fritz starting out as bit of a favourite. Backing Tabilo’s clay court credentials to take Fritz out here.
