Aryna Sabalenka v Amanda Anisimova Head to Head
It’s 2-0 to Anisimova, the youngster has beaten Sabalenka in straight sets in both their meetings. The most recent match took place in the 2019 French Open.

Sabalenka Survives Riske
Aryna Sabalenka arrived in Charleston with a disappointing record of 6-7 and a three-match losing streak.
The 23-year-old was stunned into submission in her opening-round matches in the BNP Paribas Open and Miami Open, respectively by the lower-ranked Jasmine Paolini and Irina-Camelia Begu. In fact, Sabalenka had incurred similar shocking losses to Kaja Juvan and Rebecca Peterson in Adelaide 1 and Adelaide 2 in January.
However, the top-seeded wildcard survived Alison Riske on Wednesday as she bagged her first clay-court win of the season with 7-6(3), 6-4. She hopes to surpass her previous best results of reaching the R16 in the Australian Open and quarterfinal in the Doha Cup.
Sabalenka’s lack of form this year has also caused her to slip down to the No. 5 position in the rankings from the No. 2 spot.
Nonetheless, with a massive service game, rich pedigree, and incredible oeuvre of successful tournaments, Sabalenka remains a favourite to go deep in Charleston.

Anisimova Tames Putintseva
20-year-old Amanda Anisimova shined in her WTA Charleston opener as she dismissed Yulia Putintseva 6-1, 6-2 with a strong, commanding performance.
The 20-year-old American has enjoyed a pretty decent season so far; she is 11-5 and has a singles title to her name from Melbourne 2. However, that and a fourth-round stint in the Australian Open have been the high notes of her year.
Anisimova struggled a great deal to deliver in Dubai, Doha, Indian Wells, and Miami as she lost in the early rounds in all four tournaments. A couple of these losses came against Madison Brengle and Shelby Rogers; she also fell to the better-ranked Leylah Fernandez and Jelena Ostapenko.
Clearly, Anisimova is also on shaky grounds and will need to bring her best foot forward to dismiss Sabalenka. For what it’s worth, the number 15 seed is comfortable on clay; she is the 2019 French Open semifinalist and has three ITF finals and one WTA trophy on this surface.
Sabalenka v Anisimova Prediction and Tip
Sabalenka will start as the odds-on favourite but Anisimova is well-positioned to cause an upset. This can swing either way since neither of the two players have been 100% convincing of late. We are likely in store for a long, entertaining game of tennis before we see a victor.
