Reilly Opelka v Gijs Brouwer Head to Head
They never played against each other.

Clay Fun for Opelka
Last year Reilly Opelka had quite a bit of fun on clay as the American reached the semifinals of the Rome Masters posting a 6-4 record on the surface overall. Asked whether he is a clay specialist Opelka joked that it was a one-off but he will have a chance to prove that it wasn’t this year.
Houston is clay but it’s a bit different than regular clay and it will be a very good transition for Oeplka from the hard courts. He can certainly play well on the surface but his serve will be key. If he can dominate with it he won’t be dragged into long rallies too much.
THat’s where all his trouble starts as extremely tall players like him generally don’t move as well on clay. He won against Mitchell Krueger in the first round but it was a close match lasting 3 sets. He will need to be a bit sharper against Brouwer.

Luck or Fate For Brouwer?
Gijs Brouwer was on the receiving end o a game, set, match call by the umpire during his qualifiers match against Steven Diez but a bizarre overturned call allowed him to continue the match. Per regulation, the match should have ended but it continue and Brouwer won it. He then defeated Feliciano Lopez in round 1.
In round 2 he smashed J.J. Wolf 6-1 6-1 and here we are. Is it simple luck or fate, nobody knows but Brouwer is in the quarterfinal of an ATP 250 event. It’s not by chance, he played superb tennis to down both Lopez and Wolf and he will be looking to do the same against Opelka.
There will be very little pressure on him and if he can play as he did he will have a chance.
Opelka v Brouwer Prediction and Tip
One player is far more comfortable on clay than the other it’s Brouwer. The Dutch player played a lot more matches on clay than his opponent and it shows. He moves far better and that’s something he can use to his advantage. Wolf had no idea how to attack Brouwer and he sprayed error after error.
Opelka will have a better idea thanks to his compatriots failing and the serve will be key. If he doesn’t hit it at a high rate he can run into trouble. Brouwer will be without pressure and he will cherish the chance to play in a quarterfinal. That can make him dangerous but he has not seen a server like Opelka on the Challenger tour.
That will take some time to adjust. I think it will be close, quite possibly in three sets but I just don’t see Brouwer finding enough solutions. Opelka will make him earn it and I doubt he is ready for it.
Tip: Opelka to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
