Novak Djokovic v Alejandro Davidovich Fokina Head to Head

The players  have met twice, both times in 2021 with Djokovic winning convincingly each time. The first win was in Rome at the Masters 1000 followed by a win at the Olympics in Tokyo.

Djokovic Returns To The Tour

Twenty-time major title holder and world number one Novak Djokovic returns to the tour after missing the Sunshine Masters due to vaccine related rules and restrictions in the US.

It has been a topsy turvy last few months for Djokovic, largely due to matters off the court than on.

After a splendid 2021 where he won the first three majors of the year and fell one match short of the calendar slam losing out to Daniil Medvedev in the final of the US Open, the focus has moved primarily off-court.

The Serb has often spoken of his views against being vaccinated for Covid-19 and being unvaccinated (and his visa related issues) resulted in him being deported from Australia and not being allowed to participate in the first major of the year.

Djokovic played at the Dubai Open but had a shock loss in the third match he played (quarter-final stage) against Jiri Vesley, following which he missed the Sunshine Maters.

The world number one is a two-time winner at the Monte Carlo Masters 1000 and will be looking for a good run here to put the matters of the last few months behind as well as boost his confidence going deeper into the clay swing heading to the French Open.

Uphill Task For Fokina

It has not been the best of starts this season for Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.  He has only won four matches and lost nine already this year and now runs into Novak Djokovic in the second round here at Monte Carlo.

The season start Down Under was not too promising with a loss in the opener at Sydney and a second round loss at the Aussie Open to Felix Auger- Aliassime.

While Montpellier, Rotterdam and Dubai were all first round losses, it was a better effort by the Spaniard in Doha where he made the final eight before losing out to compatriot Roberto Bautista Agut.

A good opening round win at Indian Wells against Borna Coric impressed, but he lost out in a deciding set next round to Canadian Denis Shapovalov. More opening round losses at Miami and Marrkech followed.

Fokina did well to win his opener here against Marcos Giron, but he now runs into the world number one in what will most definitely be an uphill task.

Djokovic v Fokina Prediction and Tip

Tennis fans will be looking forward to the return of Djokovic to the tour. While he can be expected to be rusty and mentally not all ready for the tour, this should not be a troublesome match for the Serb.

Expect two tight sets but a straight sets win for Djokovic.

Tip: Djokovic to win in straight sets: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
