Grigor Dimitrov v Dusan Lajovic Head to Head

The tally is tied at 1-1 with both those matches taking place in China in 2016 and 2018. Lajovic got the last laugh as he prevailed in the 2018 China Open in three sets.

Dimitrov Starts Easy

Former World No. 3 Grigor Dimitrov found himself in a comfortable match against the Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili; the Bulgarian took an early lead with 6-3, 2-0 before Basilashvili retired from the match citing injury.

Now in round two, the 30-year-old will look to continue building on this momentum and hope to find his form in Monte Carlo. For what it’s worth, of all the notable clay tournaments on the ATP Tour, Dimitrov has been the most consistent in this particular Masters. He has reached the quarterfinal here twice and was also a semifinalist in 2018.

Looking at his overall season, the current World No. 29 hasn’t had the best of the year so far but he has had his moments.

Dimitrov reached the semifinal in Melbourne and had quarterfinal appearances in Indian Wells and Delray Beach. His last tournament was in Miami where he was stunned in the opener by Mackenzie McDonald.

Lajovic, in a Rut

Dusan Lajovic defeated his compatriot Filip Krajinovic in the Monte-Carlo Masters opener in straight sets on Monday.

Despite being off to a good start, his overall tally for the season now stands at 5-10 – having lost in the first round in Miami, Indian Wells, and Rio. The 31-year-old also went winless in the ATP Cup and could salvage only a win each in Acapulco, Buenos Aires, Sydney, and the Australian Open.

Currently ranked World No. 49, Lajovic is on the prowl for his first singles title since 2019.

Compared to Dimitrov, his pedigree may not be that impressive but it is worth noting that both his singles finals have come on clay courts. He was a runner-up here in this city of Monaco in 2019 – losing to Fabio Fognini. He also has numerous ITF titles on clay courts.

Dimitrov v Lajovic Prediction and Tip

Dimitrov will start as the odds-on favourite but given his shaky form and a proclivity to lose to lower-ranked players, this match can very well go Lajovic’s way.

Expect this to be an entertaining affair where the Bulgarian should come out on the top.

Tip: Dimitrov to win with Over 21.5 Games: 15/8 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
