Ilya Ivashka v Pedro Martinez Head to Head
The pair have played each other once before on the senior tour, Ivashka winning on the clay of Marbella last year. Three years earlier they had met in qualifying for the Marrakesh Open, Martinez winning on that occasion.

Ivashka Not Known for Prowess on Clay
Whether having to play under a neutral flag, like all Belarussian players at the moment, is having an effect on Ivashka is hard to tell, but he is struggling to make the same impact in 2022 as he did last year, when he broke into the top 50, made the fourth round at Wimbledon and won his first senior title at Winston-Salem last August.
Clay is by no means his favourite surface – he has never made it beyond the first round of qualifying at the French Open, and prior to last week, he had not appeared in any of the clay court Masters events.
He skipped the US Masters tournaments, but made his Monte Carlo debut last week. However, he was no match for the Italian clay court specialist, Lorenzo Sonego, and was beaten in straight sets.

Martinez a Winner on Clay This Year
By contrast, Martinez is much more comfortable on the surface, and has already won on it in 2022, beating Sebastian Baez of Argentina to lift the Chile Open in Santiago in February, for his maiden ATP tour win.
He also finished runner-up to Casper Ruud in Kitzbuhel last July.
Despite that, he travelled to Monte Carlo last week, knowing that he had never been beyond the first round there, something he soon put right by beating Ugo Humbert of France in the first round.
He was then beaten by Hubert Hurkasz of Poland, but took the second set off the world number 14, and generally acquitted himself well.
This is very much a home event for the Spaniard, and he will be keen to do well.
Ivashka v Martinez Prediction and Tip
Although Ivashka won their meeting on clay last year, playing on the surface does not come naturally to him, whereas it is second nature for Martinez. Combine that with the fact that the Spaniard has home advantage, and he will start favourite.
Tip: Martinez to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
