Lloyd Harris v Roberto Carballes Baena Head to Head

He had a torrid start to the season, going 0-5 till Dubai, before registering his first win of the season at the Davis Cup. He also won a match at Indian Wells before finally getting some form going in Miami, where he beat Facundo Bagnis, Denis Shapovalov and Yoshihito Nishioka in the first three rounds respectively, before being dispatched by Hubert Hurkacz in the Round of 16.
But just when he found some form in 2022 the tour moved to clay, a surface where he is yet to prove himself. Harris lost a tight three-setter to Márton Fucsovics in the opening round in Monte-Carlo, thus losing the 12th match on clay at the tour level. So far he has registered just four wins on the surface at the top level.
The 25-year-old will be making his debut in Barcelona. The main goal for the World no. 40 will be to win a couple of matches and improve his clay record. But facing a clay court specialist firt up wouldn’t help his cause.

Carballes Baena Looking to Deliver at Home
At the tour level, Carballes Baena has a 4-9 record in 2022 and all those four wins have come on clay, with Marrakech being the most productive tournament for him at the top level so far. The Spaniard had beaten Marco Cecchinato and Joao Sousa to reach the last eight in Morocco, only to fall to David Goffin.
This week, he was playing at a Challenger in Madrid, where he reached the semifinals, before falling to rising Argentine Pedro Cachín in straight sets.
Carballes Baena was also a finalist at the Gran Canaria Challenger in February and reached the quarterfinals at the Marbella Challenger earlier this month. So, overall, his form has been pretty good on clay and he will be looking to start with a win in Barcelona. But the 29-year-old doesn’t have a great record in the tournament.
He is 4-6 in the tournament and a run to the quarterfinals as a qualifier in 2019 was his best result so far. That was also the last time he played in Barcelona, so he will be hoping to go deep once again.
Harris v Carballes Baena Prediction and Tip
Harris is the higher ranked player, but since the tournament is on clay and in Carballes Baena’s backyard, expect the Spaniard to win this one with ease.
