Maria Sakkari v Laura Siegemund Head to Head
This will be the first meeting between the two ladies on the WTA Tour.

Sakkari Ready for Clay
World No. 5 Maria Sakkari is eager to kick start the clay swing as she looks to build on her solid season so far. The Greek is 16-6 this year and has been nothing short of impressive.
Although she suffered a shock defeat in her last tournament in Miami at the hands of Beatriz Haddad Maia in the opener, that loss was preceded by runner-up feats in St. Petersburg and Indian Wells, and a semifinal run in Doha. In these tournaments, the number four seed dismissed the likes of Jessica Pegula, Coco Gauff, Petra Kvitova, Paula Badosa, and Elise Mertens – and eventually reached her career-best ranking at #3.
Even though the 26-year-old is yet to win multiple titles on clay, she is more than comfortable on the surface and can very well go the distance here in Stuttgart.
She was a semifinalist in last year’s French Open and reached the same stage in Rome in 2019. Sakkari also has numerous ITF clay titles.

Siegemund Dismisses Zidansek
German wildcard Laura Siegemund defeated Tamara Zidansek in the opener with 6-3, 6-3.
She is singles World No. 231 right now and this win in Stuttgart marks her first WTA victory since the Bad Homburg Open last year. Since then, Siegemund has largely played on the ITF and doubles circuit. Needless to say, she hasn’t been successful as a singles player.
In doubles, the 34-year-old has done considerably better there as she is the ranked world number 40. She is 9-1 there and most recently, won the doubles in Lyon Open and Miami Open with Vera Zvonareva.
Interestingly, Siegemund is also a former Stuttgart Open champion – she won the title in 2017 defeating Kristina Mladenovic in the final. That was her third and last WTA singles final on the tour (all on clay).
Sakkari v Siegemund Prediction and Tip
There is no denying that Sakkari will start as the favourite; she has the form, experience, and pedigree needed to reach the quarters. Siegemund may put up substantial resistance but assuming the Greek is fit and primed, that resistance may be futile.
Tip: Sakkari to win: 4/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
