Karen Khachanov v Thiago Monteiro Head to Head

Their only previous outing came at the 2017 Wimbledon where Khachanov had needed four sets to get past Monteiro.

Khachanov Gets Safiullin Walkover

Coming into his second round match against Roman Safiullin on the back of a four-match losing streak, Khachanov would have been hoping for a turnaround in fortunes when he took to court.

The turnaround did come but it wasn’t in the manner Khachanov would have expected. Safiullin did not take to court because of fitness issues, leaving Khachanov with an entry into the last eight without having to lift his racquet this competition – he had a first round bye.

Khachanov had earlier reached the final of the ATP Adelaide International following which he made the third round at Australian Open and a semifinal in Doha.

However, it’s not been as easy since then, with an early exit in Dubai followed by three defeats in a row including an opening loss in Monte-Carlo.

And a walkover here might have been good but it means Khachanov’s last win came exactly two months ago.

Can he finally get on board?

Monteiro Shock for Krajinovic

Things hadn’t been easy for Monteiro heading into the main draw of this year’s Serbia Open as the Brazilian needed a couple of hard-fought qualifying victories to make it through. Both those qualifiers went to a third set.

An easy win over Joao Sousa followed in the opening round but when he took to court against the local lad Filip Krajnovic, he was a 13/10 underdog to make it through. And make it through he did and in fine style at that too.

Monteiro needed less than an hour and a half to register a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Krajinovic, breaking him four times in the encounter. In turn, the 110th-ranked player faced three break-points and saved all of them.

Up against a player who hasn’t played in 10 days and hasn’t won in two months, Monteiro might give himself a bit of a chance here.

Khachanov v Monteiro Prediction and Tip

Khachanov might be a favourite on paper but giving Monteiro a chance to take this to a third at the very least.

Tip: Monteiro to win a set – Yes: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
