Fabio Fognini v Oscar Otte Head to Head

Good and Bad Fabio

Fabio Fognini is the definition of a mercurial player as the Italian is able to be one of the best and worst players in the world in the span of minutes. The Italian has been generally struggling this past year but at times he does produce some stellar displays.

In Belgrade, we saw the bad Fabio who barely battled past Marco Cecchinato who has not won a match in many many months. In the next round, we saw good Fabio who took down Aljaz Bedene like it was nothing. The Italian is generally a rather good clay player and tends to win matches against worse opponents regularly.

Yet there is this question about his motivation on a given day that can see him lose to pretty much anybody. It seems like he’s found some inspiration against Bedene and a possible spot in the semifinal should keep his fire burning.

Otte On A Mission in Belgrade

Oscar Otte seems like a late bloomer as the German has played some of the best tennis he played in his carer in the past 12 months. The German has a very loose style that does not involve that many tactics and he generally plays with a lot of confidence.

Sometimes it works, other times it doesn’t and so far this week in Belgrade it’s worked rather well. He’s very comfortable on clay, he can move well and he likes to attack. All of that helps him defeat opponents on his day and so far it’s been good enough.

In round 1 it was good enough to smash Alejandro Tabilo. In round 2 it was good enough to overcome Aslan Karatsev who was a champion in Belgrade before. All in all, Otte is playing great and he will look to continue that.

Fognini v Otte Prediction and Tip

So this matchup is a nightmare to predict, it really is. First of all, you never know what you’re going to get with Fognini. He’s 10-7 on the year which is okay but if he comes out ‘not feeling it’ he’s in trouble. Otte generally seems to care a bit more about winning matches at the moment.

However, that’s only half the story. He also tends to self destruct rather easily when things go wrong. Both of these players can win this match and both can self-destruct if they feel like it. In circumstances like these, I’d most likely side with the over because I can see it go the distance.

If i had to pick a winner it would be Fognini. I think he looked better against Bedene and he is the better clay player. However betting on him is such a risk so be aware of that.

Tip: Fognini to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
