Veronika Kudermetova v Anastasia Potapova Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came on the hard court surface of the Melbourne Summer Set 1 and Kudermetova had won that quarterfinal in three sets.

This is the fourth time Kudermetova has made an appearance in Istanbul and her results have been ever-improving since.
In 2017, she had crashed out in the qualifiers, followed it up with a quarterfinal appearance in 2019 and then did one better in 2021. This time around, the world number 29 has reached the title-decider and aiming to win her third WTA title.
And in getting to that stage, Kudermetova is yet to drop a set, aided also by a walkover in the second round by Ana Bogdan.
Her best performance came against the defending champion Sorana Cirstea whom she overcame 6-3, 6-3 in the semifinal. The match lasted just an hour and 24 minutes, with Kudermetova breaking her opponent four times while facing just one break-point in the entire encounter.

Potapova Overturning a Poor Season Otherwise
Before coming into this tournament, Potapova had seen some drastic struggles, those which had seen her plummet from 67th in the world at the start of the season to her current 122nd.
This was a manifestation of a very poor 2021 season and just three main draw wins spread across eight tournaments all of this year.
Which is why Potapova needed to get through the qualification rounds in Istanbul to make it to the main draw but not much was expected out of her after that.
An easy first round victory against the 16-year-old Nikola Bartunkova was as far as one expected from her but she has gone on from there to upset three opponents, all of whom were favourites to come through.
Petra Martic and Sara Sorribes Tormo were both shown the door in straight sets and Potapova then showed great tenacity to shun Yulia Putintseva in the semifinals.
Can she now overturn Kudermetova to lift first ever WTA and just her second tennis title overall at a competitive level?
