Tommy Paul has been in decent touch this season. The World No. 35 brings a 15-8 season record to Estoril. He has not made a single first round exit so far this year and barring the Australian Open and the Houston Open, he has won two matches in all the other tournaments.
The 24-year-old was a semifinalist at Delray Beach and a quarterfinalist in Adelaide-1, Adelaide-2 and Acapulco.
Can Paul deliver on clay? He was the boys’ singles champion at the French Open in 2015 and has done very well at the Futures and Challenger level on the surface. He is yet to gain more experience on the surface at the top level, but was a semifinalist in Parma last year and has an overall record of 12-13 on the surface.
This year, he is 1-1 on clay having just appeared in Houston. He will hope for better results on his Estoril debut.

2015 Champion Gasquet Is 6-7 In 2022
One of Richard Gasquet’s 15 career titles came in Estoril in 2015. The Frenchman, currently ranked No. 82 in the world, defeated Nick Kyrgios in the final of that year’s event.
That was also the last of his three clay court titles. Gasquet, who has won 61.8% of his matches on clay court over his career, is 7-1 in Estoril.
He is 2-2 on clay courts this season. Gasquet reached the quarterfinals in Marrakech, by winning two tough three-setters, but fell in the last eight to Federico Coria (also in a three-set contest). He was outplayed by Miomir Kecmanovic in straight sets at the Serbia Open this week.
Overall, the Frenchman is 6-7 this season. He was also a quarterfinalist in Montpellier, but has struggled to go deep in tournaments. Coming into the tournament with two consecutive defeats he will be hoping to return to winning ways in Estoril.
