Emil Ruusuvuori v Yoshihito Nishioka Head to Head

There has been one previous meeting between these two and Ruusuvuori had won that. It came in the 2021 Marseille Open and the Finn had defeated Nishioka in straight sets in the first round there.

Ruusuvuori Makes a Solid Start on Clay

Ruusuvuori’s on clay has been anything but exemplary in the previous seasons with the Finn having shown his propensity to do better on the quicker courts. That said, he has made a decent start to the season on the red dirt this year.

Needing to go through the qualifiers to make it to the main draw of the Monte-Carlo Masters, Ruusuvuori did just that and then overcame Oscar Otte to reach the second round. There he went down fighting to Jannik Sinner.

This was followed by a couple of facile victories over Feliciano Lopez and Alexander Bublik in the first two rounds in Barcelona. This was first time in his career he had done that in the main draw of a clay court tournament, before succumbing in the third round to Casper Ruud.

With that kind of confidence in play, Ruusuvuori might have taken that first few steps to getting some of his clay court rhythm for the rest of the season. Can he now kick-start this tournament with a win too?

Nishioka in His First Clay Court Competition

Much like his opponent in this encounter, Nishioka isn’t quite at his best on clay and when he walks out to the court to face Ruusuvuori it will be his first ever main draw match of the season on it.

Nishioka, who was once ranked 48th in the world, made it to the main draw of his maiden clay court competition with a couple of qualifying wins.

It started off with a straight-set win against Maximilian Marterer before getting pushed to a gruelling three-setter against Yannick Hanfmann in the second. He won 7-5, 6-7 (5), 6-4 in that match to enter round one.

What needs to now be seen is if he can turn things around enough on this surface to get past his Finnish opponent too, on a surface on which he has won just 10 main draw matches all career.

Ruusuvuori v Nishioka Prediction and Tip

Ruusuvuori’s biggest advantage here is his opponent is coming off two matches in two days of which one would have tested his fitness to the fullest. Expect the Finn to edge past Nishioka, especially if the contest goes into the third.

Tip: Ruusuvuori to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
