Demolished by Carlos Taberner in the first round of the Barcelona Open, Sebastian Korda will be looking to quickly put the setback behind him and start off well in Estoril, where he will be making his debut.
The 21-year-old American brings a 10-7 season record into the tournament and he is 2-2 on clay. Korda had beaten Carlos Alcaraz en route the Round of 16 in Monte-Carlo this year, but suffered a 3-6, 0-6 defeat to Taberner in the first round of the Barcelona Open.
He is a good player on clay with an overall record of 11-7 on the surface and therefore, will look to make up for the Barcelona disappointment in Estoril. His only tour-level title had come on clay in Parma last season.
Seeded No. 8 in Estoril, Korda had also reached the third round of the Australian Open earlier this season and the quarterfinals of the Delray Beach Open, where he was a finalist last year.

Herbert Comes Through Qualifiers
Ever since losing in last year’s final of the Marseille Open to Daniil Medvedev, Pierre-Hugues Herbert has seen a steady decline in his form and ranking.
A four-time finalist on the tour, the 31-year-old Frenchman has mostly featured in lower level events this year. He is 2-2 in the main draws, winning one and losing one in Montpellier and Marseille, but lost in the first qualifying round in Barcelona.
Herbert has reached just one semifinal and one quarterfinal at the Challenger level this year.
Ranked World No. 157, the former World No. 36 made it to the main draw of Estoril with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Alexei Popyrin and a 7-5, 6-7, 6-2 win over Spain’s Fernando Verdasco.
