Casper Ruud v Alex Molcan Head to Head
This will be their first tour level meeting. Molcan won at a lower level tournament in 2018.

Ruud in Good Form
Last year’s semifinalist Casper Ruud comes into this year’s tournament with a 16-6 season record behind him.
The Norwegian, ranked no. 7 in the world, claimed his seventh tour-level title by beating Diego Schwartzman in the final of the Buenos Aires Open in February. Then earlier this month, Ruud reached a maiden ATP 1000 final in Miami, but finished runner-up to Carlos Alcaraz.
A five-time champion on the tour last year, Ruud last featured at the Barcelona Open last week, falling to eventual finalist Pablo Carreno Busta in the last eight stage.
One of the top clay court players right now, Ruud is 7-2 on the surface this year and is 81-32 over his career, which has seen him win six of his seven titles on the surface.
But he will be disappointed with his last two showings. He was beaten by Grigor Dimitrov in the Round of 16 in Monte-Carlo and then suffered the last eight loss to Carreno Busta in Barcelona. Can he make up for those setbacks in Munich?

Molcan Outlasts Gombos
Alex Molcan improved his season record on clay to 5-1 as the Slovakian carved out a tough win against compatriot Norbert Gombos in the first round on Monday.
The left-handed Molcan, who reached the Marrakech Open final in his only other clay court tournament this year, took the first set with two breaks of serve, but was forced to play the deciding set after the lucky loser took the second by getting the only break of the set.
It was a hard-fought third set with neither player getting broken. There was little to choose between the two in the tiebreak as well, but eventually the 46th-ranked Molcan converted a third match point to win the match 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (9-7) in an hour and 55 minutes.
It was Molcan’s 10th victory of the season. The 24-year-old had also featured in the quarterfinals in Melbourne. His run to the final in Marrakech had ended with a defeat to David Goffin. Last year, he had also reached the final of Belgrade-2, falling to Novak Djokoivc in the final of the clay court event.
Molcan is 10-3 overall on clay and has won four titles at the lower levels on the surface.
Ruud v Molcan Prediction and Tip
Molcan has displayed terrific form this season, but playing against Ruud will need him to raise his level even further. The Norwegian is expected to win this and advance.
