Pablo Cuevas v Roberto Carballes Baena Head to Head
It’s 1-0 to Cuevas although, they last met in the 2014 ATP Ecuador where the 36-year-old won in straight sets.

36-year-old Pablo Cuevas is quite likely in the final stages of his career and will hope to cap it off with another ATP title. It will quite likely be a challenge for him, however, as his tally for the year stands at 2-5 – with three of those wins coming in the Santa Cruz De La Sierra Challenger.
On the ATP circuit, the Uruguayan has picked up only one win – in the ATP Houston where he dismissed Max Purcell to reach round two (loss to Frances Tiafoe).
Riding low on form and momentum, it is hard to imagine Cuevas overcoming Baena in the Estoril Open first round, who himself is going through somewhat of a rut.
That said, Cuevas reached the final here in 2019 (his last singles final on the tour) and has also got a rich pedigree on clay courts with nine career finals. He is certainly experienced enough to give his opponent a run for his money.

Baena, Current World No. 100
Roberto Carbellas Baena is the current World No. 100 – 29 places behind his career-best singles ranking and seven places above Cuevas.
His tally for the season stands at 4-10 and once again, a majority of those wins came on the Challenger circuit. In fact, the 29-year-old Spaniard has seen some success there as she reached the final in the Gran Canaria Challenger, the quarterfinal in the Marbella one, and the semis in Madrid.
His last tournament, however, ended quite early as he succumbed to Lloyd Harris in the Barcelona Open first round.
Compared to Cuevas, Baena hasn’t got that rich of a pedigree on the surface with only one ATP title; however, he boasts of an impressive 32 Challenger and Futures finals on clay courts.

Cuevas may be experienced but Baena has played far more tennis this season and objectively, he is in a better form. The Spaniard will start as the favourite but it may not be an easy match for him – expect this one to be a slogfest.
