Opelka in Solid Form

Reilly Opelka will be playing for the first time since winning the Houston Open title by defeating John Isner in the final. It was Opelka’s fourth ATP title and his second this year.

The American’s first title this season came in Dallas, when he defeated Jenson Brooksby for the crown. Opelka was also a finalist in Delray Beach but couldn’t win the title, falling to Cameron Norrie.

Ranked No. 17 in the world, Opelka is 17-6 this season. The 24-year-old, who is 4-0 on clay this year, has a 12-13 overall record on the surface. A run to the semifinals of the Rome Masters last year was one of the highlights for him on the surface.

Making his debut in Munich, the third seed will be hoping to pick up from where he left in Houston and continue his winning momentum on European clay.

Otte Outplays Topo

World no. 62 Oscar Otte ousted qualifier Marko Topo in the first round to march into the Round of 16 for the second consecutive tournament.

The German had beaten Alejandro Tabilo and Aslan Karatsev at the Serbia Open last week to reach the quarterfinals of a tour-level event for the first time this year. But he was stopped in the last eight stage by Fabio Fognini.

Otte began well in Munich with a convincing win over Serbian qualifier Marko Topo. The 28-year-old dropped just nine points on his serve in the entire match. He wasn’t broken by the Serb but he converted four of seven break points to win the match 6-1, 6-2 in 57 minutes.

Following the win, Otte improved his season record to 7-8 and his clay record to 3-2 in 2022. This was just his fourth win on the surface at the tour-level. Although he hasn’t played much at the top level, but he has a very good record at the lower levels on clay and will be hoping to improve his season numbers further on his Munich debut.

Opelka v Otte Prediction and Tip
