Aryna Sabalenka v Amanda Anisimova Head to Head
Anisimova holds a surprising 3-0 lead over Sabalenka, beating her twice on clay courts. They last met as recently as the Charleston Open 2022 where the American prevailed in three sets.

Sabalenka Set for Title Defence in Madrid
Defending champion Aryna Sabalenka is primed for a deep run in this year’s Madrid Open, although it may be a challenging journey. The number three seed, should she overcome Anisimova in the opener, will quite likely then run into the likes of Liudmila Samsonova, Victoria Azarenka, Jelena Ostapenko, or Karolina Pliskova.
For what it’s worth, the World No. 4 recently found some reprieve on the tour following a series of disappointing results on the tour this season. Most recently, she reached the final in Stuttgart after overcoming Bianca Andreescu, Anett Kontaveit, and Paula Badosa. She ultimately fell to Iga Swiatek in straight sets.
Before this, Sabalenka’s previous best run came in Doha where she was a quarterfinalist.
Her win-loss tally at the moment stands at 10-9; nonetheless, she has retained her spot in the top five.

Anisimova, at an Impressive 14-6
Amanda Anisimova’s tally, on the other hand, is placed at an impressive 14-6. She has already bagged a title this season in Melbourne Set 2 in addition to reaching the semifinal in the Charleston 500.
The 20-year-old, who is currently ranked World No. 33, will be playing in Madrid only for the second time in her career. Her last stint ended in a first-round exit while before that, she was dismissed in the qualifiers.
She is also quite comfortable on clay, having won the French Open Juniors in 2016 and reaching the semifinal in the Seniors’ version in 2019. Add to that her decent resume against the top 10 players, and it becomes more evident that Anisimova has a real chance of winning this one.
Sabalenka v Anisimova Prediction and Tip
While Sabalenka is the odds-on favourite, her lack of form and consistency this year does not bode that well for her. Plus, Anisimova has a huge psychological advantage here in the form of the 3-0 lead; this is bound to be in Sabalenka’s mind when she takes on the court.
All in all, this is going to be an interesting match that can swing either way.
