They never played against each other.

Chance for Deep Run for de Botic

Botic van de Zandschulp doesn’t get many chances for a deep run at events but Munich is quite wide open with the crashing out of Alexander Zverev. The Dutch player won his first match here against Brandon Nakashima and now he is taking on a player who he can beat as well.

It’s been a solid year for him as he has an 11-9 record on the year which is pretty solid for him. He is firmly inside the top 50 and he proved himself a couple of times on the ATP tour already. He posted a 26-11 record on clay last year so he’s pretty comfortable on the surface.

He has a good serve and that serves him well but he also has quite a bit of variety in his game. He’s tall but he moves rather well for his size so generally speaking, he has a pretty solid game for this surface. With a chance for the semifinal, he will be motivated as well.

Gerasimov the Clay Specialist

Egor Gerasimov is capable of playing very well on clay but generally speaking, he has never been a great clay player. He pushed Nadal hard once at the French Open but generally, he was losing more matches than winning. Things changed this year as the Belarussian has a 6-1 record on the surface.

Most of these wins came in the qualifiers against lesser opposition but even so it’s a very positive trend for him. Outside of clay, he’s 8-10 which caused him to drop out of the top 100. Getting back there is the goal and a possible quarterfinal in Munich would help him greatly.

While his level in Barcelona was pretty strong, it’s even better in Munich. He took down Franciso Cerundolo, Thiago Monteiro in straight sets with both being noted clay specialists. He took down John Millman as well which is a good result as the Australian is a tricky opponent. Can he win another one ?

van de Zandschulp v Gerasimovic Prediction and Tip

So we have a red-hot player in Gerasimov who seemingly can’t lose on clay and Botic who is a pretty strong clay player as well. The matchup is a fun one as both are pretty tall players and both like to attack. Gerasimov is a bit more attacking by nature so I suspect he will try to take over the match.

That can work in his favour as lately he has been really strong from the baseline but hitting through his opponent will be very tough. The biggest asset of the Dutch player is his consistency which rarely sees him produce a terrible effort.

He has been very solid all year long and I expect him to be once more. That, for me, should be enough to take down Gerasimov. It’s going to be close but I trust Botic more and back him to win in three.

Tip: van de Zandschulp to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
