Gaston Knocks out Giron
Hugo Gaston made a good start to his Munich Open campaign as he knocked out the United States Marcos Giron in a three-set contest on Tuesday.
The two-hour-and-35-minute contest saw Gaston go a break up in the very first game of the match and the Frenchman held on to that lead to take the first set. None of the players could break in the second, with Giron eventually taking the set in the tiebreak.
The third set too was a tight one with both players staying strong on their serve. Giron saved a match point on his serve at 4-5 (30-40) to keep his chances alive, but Gaston didn’t miss out on the second match point opportunity that he got in the 12th game to win the contest 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 7-5.
This was Gaston’s fourth win this season. The 21-year-old lefty, who reached the Gstaad final last season, has found the going tough so far. He got his first win of the season in Marseille and then got two more wins in Miami. Tuesday’s win improved his season numbers to 4-7.

Tabilo Stuns Garin Again
Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo defeated compatriot Cristian Garin for the second time this season on Wednesday.
Tabilo, who had knocked the World No. 30 in Santiago en route the semifinals, once again knocked out the senior pro in straight sets. The World No. 91 converted four of 11 break points and saved five of seven on his way to a 6-4, 6-3 victory.
The Chilean, who had beaten France’s Geoffrey Blancaneaux in the first qualifying round, had lost to Jiri Lehecka in the second qualifying round. But he still got a place in the main draw as a lucky loser. Now, the 24-year-old Tabilo has a chance of reaching a third quarterfinal this season.
Tabilo had finished runner-up to Albert Ramos-Vinolas in Cordoba and was beaten by Pedro Martinez in the last four in Santiago. Wednesday’s win improved him to 11-8 in the main draws this season, which also includes a win over then No. 14 Diego Schwartzman in the semifinal in Cordoba.
With a 10-5 season record on clay, Tabilo will be looking to further improve those numbers on Thursday.
Gaston v Tabilo Prediction and Tip
This is expected to be an exciting contest. Both players are coming off wins against good opponents, but it is Tabilo’s overall form on clay this season that gives him an edge against the Frenchman.
