Casper Ruud v Botic van de Zandschulp Head to Head
They played once before and the Dutch player was able to win that one at last year’s US Open with 3-6 6-4 6-3 6-4.

Casper Ruud has made a habit of winning quite a few trophies in his career so far. The Norwegian won several last year and already has one his year. He will want to add another one in Munich where he is the best player remaining in the draw.
This year has been a continuation of strong play by him last year. He is 16-5 on the year and he’s been equally good on hard courts and clay courts. The red dirt suits his play a bit more because he is an excellent mover on the surface with a very strong forehand as well.
His play recently has been pretty solid but he is capable of playing much much better. Since his Miami Open loss to Carlos Alcaraz, Ruud’s form has been somewhat shaky with some strange losses. He lost to Grigor Dimitrov in Monte-Carlo which is a match he should have won and he lost to Pablo Carreno Busta, another one he should have won.

Botic the Flying Dutchman
Botic van de Zandschulp is looking very strong on the red dirt in Munich. The Dutchman has played on the surface since youth and ti’s showing. He had some notable wins on the surface last year as well and he has a decent shot of a deep run in Munich.
His first match comes against a player he’s defeated already and taht should give him a blueprint on how to attack. He likes to attack and he moves really well on clay as well despite being a taller player. He’s 12-9 on the year and that’s a pretty solid year for him.
After breaking out last year he will need to play consistent tennis in order to retain his ranking inside the top 50. A win over Ruud would help him in doing that.
Ruud v van de Zandschulp Prediction and Tip
These players played once last year and it was the Dutchman who proved better at the US Open winning in four sets. The result is interesting because it came during a time when Ruud was playing really strong tennis. But it was also the event that produced the breakout of the Dutchman.
He played superbly at that event and never quite replicated the same level. He can play well on clay but he is nowhere near the level of Ruud. The Norwegian is simply the better play on this surface and it’s not even close. Even so, this won’t be an easy match.
Ruud had his problems against Molcan as well and we can expect some struggle against Botic as well. He’s not playing that great at the moment and he can play much better. Even so, I back him to win the match, he’s just better.
