Naomi Osaka v Anastasia Potapova Head to Head
This will be the first meeting between the two players on the WTA Tour.

Former world number one Naomi Osaka, in line with her philosophy of taking things easy, is set to compete in her first clay tournament of the season.
She is coming off a runner-up feat in the Miami Open where she fell to Iga Swiatek in the final – but not before moving past Angelique Kerber, Karolina Muchova, Danielle Collins, and Belinda Bencic.
That was only her fourth tournament of the season; the 24-year-old Japanese reached the semifinal in Melbourne 1 and round three in the Australian Open.
As a four-time Grand Slam winner, Osaka is more than equipped for a good run in Madrid but interestingly enough, she is yet to bag a title on clay courts. The best she has done is reaching the quarterfinal here and in Rome in 2019.
Nonetheless, given her incredible record against the other big guns on the tour, she remains a top contender.

Potapova on a Roll
21-year-old Anastasia Potapova will be pleased with her positive start in Madrid, having defeated Mayar Sherif and Kristina Mladenovic in straight sets in the qualifiers.
Currently ranking World No. 78, Potapova is coming off a sensational run as she picked up her maiden WTA trophy in Istanbul last week. As a qualifier, she defeated the likes of Petra Martic, Yulia Putintseva, Veronika Kudermetova, among others to win the tournament and crack the top 100 once again.
Before this, Potapova had to settle for early-round exits in her last five tournaments this season.
As for her record against the top 10 players, it is not entirely convincing having only defeated Angelique Kerber, Belinda Bencic, and Maria Sakkari.
Osaka v Potapova Prediction and Tip
Osaka should win this match but given how she has fared on the whole, Potapova’s chances of winning cannot be undermined. If anything, the Russian makes for an appealing underdog bet here – especially considering the odds at which she is available. Plus, she has the tempo on clay and can very well push Osaka to the limit.
But to be on the safer side, we’re going to back the clear favourite here.
