Tiafoe on the Cusp of Breaking into Top 25

He wins this or not, Tiafoe will join the league of the extraordinary 25 gentlemen on the ATP Rankings chart while a victory will take him a few ranks further up.

All of that won’t be on Tiafoe’s mind at the moment though, as he looks to double his ATP title count and the manner in which he has fought throughout the tournament, it would only be a deserving end to his stay in Estoril.

Because he has played four matches here, won all of them in three sets, of which two have seen him come back from being a set down.

And in a couple of them, Tiafoe was a distance second-favourite going into the match, having defeated both Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Sebastian Korda in successive matches to reach the final.

Interestingly, for the third match in a row, Tiafoe will start off as an underdog against a player who had won six Challenger titles on clay last season. Can he make it a hattrick of such wins then?

Baez in Second ATP Final of the Season

Baez’s form coming into this tournament hadn’t been the best. In fact, since making it to the final of the Santiago Open in February this year, Baez had featured in five tournaments including one Challenger and lost in the first round at each one of them.

A straight-set win over Joao Sousa in the first round broke that losing spell but when he fell a set behind in the second round to Marin Cilic, the writing seemed to be back on the wall.

Instead of cowering down though, Baez overcame Cilic in three, repeated the comeback dose against Richard Gasquet before overcoming Albert Ramos-Vinolas in another three sets.

He defeated Ramos-Vinolas 6-3, 6-7 (7), 6-0, after frittering away two match-points in the second sets.

Baez’s record on clay despite his poor recent run, along with his run in this competition should instill him the kind of confidence one needs to get going. Can he win his first ever ATP title to go with his six Challenger tournament wins?

Tiafoe v Baez Prediction and Tip

This has Baez pegged as a favourite at 4/7 and while he think he will come away a winner here, Tiafoe has shown he can put up a fighting show. Does he enough ammo left in him though after a week of three-setters?

Tip: Baez to win in straight sets: 11/8 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
