Simona Halep v Ons Jabeur Head to Head

It’s 2-1 to Halep who defeated the Tunisian as recently as the 2022 WTA Dubai in straight sets. This will be their first meeting on clay courts.

Jabeur on a Roll

World No. 10 Ons Jabeur is having herself quite a clay season; she was the runner-up in Charleston, a quarterfinalist in Stuttgart, and now, one of the elite eight in Madrid.

In the last few weeks, the 27-year-old Tunisian has dismissed a handful of big players like Anhelina Kalinina, Amanda Anisimova, and Daria Kasatkina. Here in Spain, she has built on this with impressive victories over Jasmine Paolini, Varvara Gracheva, and most recently, Belinda Bencic.

In fact, that 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 win over Bencic was a good revenge match for the number eight, who had fallen to the Swiss in the final in Charleston.

Having reached three consecutive quarterfinals at the start of the season as well, Jabeur has undoubtedly been among the most consistent performers on the tour this season. Her tally now stands at 17-7; she has also posted her best results in the Madrid Open this time around.

Halep, a Four-Time Finalist in Madrid

Current World No. 21 and former world number one Simona Halep is finding her path back to the winning ways this season. She is 18-4 as of this week and has already bagged a title at Melbourne Summer Set 1.

After an injury-mired spell last year, the 30-year-old Romanian is roaring with confidence and momentum. Her other highlights of the season include reaching the semifinal in Dubai and Indian Wells where she upset Jabeur, Coco Gauff, and Petra Martic.

Playing in her first clay tournament of the season, Halep certainly feels right at home. She is yet to drop a set and has delivered a tennis masterclass to Shuai Zhang, Paula Badosa, and Cori Gauff without as much as breaking a sweat.

Perhaps, this has something to do with the fact that Madrid Open is Halep’s most successful WTA 1000 event; she is a two-time champion and two-time runner-up. She is also quite good on clay so there’s that too.

Jabeur v Halep Prediction and Tip

Halep’s chances of winning this one are quite decent but Jabeur cannot be ignored. The Tunisian has worked quite hard on the tour and she is more persistent than anybody. At the very least, she is likely to put up a solid fight and drag this to three sets. We are looking at an excellent game of tennis.
