Amanda Anisimova v Ekaterina Alexandrova Head to Head

Anisimova holds a 1-0 lead, last beating her the Russian in the 2020 WTA Doha.

Anisimova Carving Big Names

Amanda Anisimova has been on a roll in Madrid over the last week. After knocking out the defending champion Aryna Sabalenka in the opener (6-2, 3-6, 6-4), the 20-year-old moved on to beat Petra Martic and most recently, Victoria Azarenka.

Having surpassed a former world number one and a current world number four, Anisimova will hope to keep this tempo going. She has already posted her best results at a WTA 1000 event and appears to be bustling with confidence.

Her other highlights of the season include winning the title in Melbourne Set and reaching the semifinal in Charleston. The American couldn’t have asked for a better preclude to the clay swing as she overcame Sabalenka, Yulia Putintseva, and Coco Vandeweghe there.

Moreover, as a Junior French Open runner-up and a Senior semifinalist in 2019, Anisimova has a clear preference for clay.

Alexandrova Playing some Fine Tennis

Ekaterina Alexandrova, like her upcoming adversary, is also preparing for a breakthrough moment on the tour. Although she hasn’t been half as consistent as Anisimova, the 27-year-old has had her moments.

What’s impressive is she started as a qualifier in Madrid and had to beat Tamara Korpatsch and Clara Burel to reach the main draw. Since then, she has handsomely outperformed the 2017 Roland Garros champion Jelena Ostapenko, Nuria Parrizas Diaz, and Marie Bouzkova.

To make things more interesting, she also reached the semis in Charleston although, her journey entailed wins over Karolina Pliskova, Qinwen Zheng, Magda Linette, and Allie Kiick.

That said, Alexandrova has fallen to several big names like Anett Kontaveit, Simona Halep, Maria Sakkari, and Belinda Bencic in 2022. Anisimova is certainly in a league with these elites and it will be interesting to see how the current World No. 45 fares in this challenge.

Anisimova v Alexandrova Prediction and Tip

Anisimova makes for a brilliant bet here; everybody likes an underdog and she is also quite comfortable on this surface. She has delivered a handful of brilliant runs in the past and has got a good resume against the top 10 players.

Alexandrova, while experienced, will need to bring her A-game here but ultimately, that may very well not be enough. That said, it is likely to be a close contest.

Tip: Anisimova to Win, Over 20.5 Games: 5/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
