The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the 31 year old Belgian, and the Dutch player who is five years younger.

Qualifier Goffin Breezes Past Karatsev
Goffin’s victory in Marrakesh last month arrested a prolonged slump in form for the Belgian, but his ranking had slipped in the meantime so far, that he was forced to qualify in Madrid beating first Jiri Vesely of the Czech Republic and then Alejandro Tabilo of Chile, to earn his place in the main draw.
But, having got there, he enjoyed a surprisingly comfortable victory over the world number 34, Aslan Karatsev, a man playing under a neutral flag in Spain.
An early break put the Belgian in control of the first set, and then another one helped him claim the set, with Karatsev unable to exert any pressure on the Goffin serve.
Again an early break put Goffin in the box seat in the second set, and he had three match points, all of which Karatsev saved. When Goffin dropped his serve for the first time in the match, Karatsev was able to level things up. But serving to stay in the match, Karatsev presented Goffin with another match point, which he was happy to accept.

Van de Zandschulp Upsets Local Favourite
After van de Zandschulp was forced to retire from the final of the Munich Open on Sunday with chest pains, his participation in Madrid was in doubt.
But he showed that he had fully recovered with a gritty win against the world number 18, and number 16 seed, Pablo Carreno-Busta on Tuesday night.
Both men had break opportunities in the first set, could not take them and it went to a tie-break. Carreno-Busta had three set points, and made the third one count.
When the Dutchman went an early break down in the second set, it looked like he was heading out of the tournament. But with Carreno-Busta serving for the match, van der Zandschulp dug deep, and produced a break of his own.
Three games later he had to save a match point on his own serve but, having done so, romped through the subsequent tie-break.
It then went with serve until the sixth game of the third set which proved to be decisive. That was when van de Zandschulp engineered a decisive service break, although almost as important was the break point he saved next game.
He had to save yet another break point, but he was finally able to celebrate victory.
Goffin v Can de Zandschulp Prediction and Tip
