Nadal Makes a Winning Return

Back after a six-week layoff due to an injury, Rafael Nadal seemed he was never away from the game as he powered past Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanovic in the second round of the Madrid Open on Wednesday.

The World no. 4, who is chasing a sixth title in Madrid, was off to a flying start, breaking his opponent twice and winning the first set in just 37 minutes. The rain-affected match, saw the Serbian raise his game in the second set, as he came back from a break down on two occasions to force the tiebreak.

Nadal, who failed to serve out the match at 6-5 in the second set, got two minibreaks in the tiebreak against Kecmanovic’s 1 to seal the one-hour-and-55-minute contest 6-1, 7-6 (7-4).

The Spaniard, who won a record-breaking 21st Grand Slam title at the Australian Open, had a 20-0 start to the season, before the perfect run ended with a defeat to Taylor Fritz at the Indian Wells final. In addition to the first major of the year, Nadal had also won the Melbourne Summer Set and the Acapulco titles.

If the 35-year-old is able to win a fourth title of the season, by ending a five year title drought in Madrid, he will equal Novak Djokovic’s record of 37 ATP Masters 1000 crowns.

Goffin Eases Past Van de Zandsculp

Marrakech champion David Goffin is back in form after a couple of poor tournaments, reaching the third round of the Madrid Open with a straight sets drubbing of Botic Van de Zandschulp on Wednesday.

The Belgian, who qualified for the main draw with straight sets wins over Jiří Veselý and Alejandro Tabilo, is yet to drop a set this week. He had won his first round match against Aslan Karatsev, beating the out-of-form Russian 6-2, 7-5.

Facing Munich Open finalist Van de Zandschulp on Wednesday, Goffin converted four of nine break points and saved four of five to beat the World No. 31 6-4, 6-2.

Ranked No. 60 in the world, Goffin improved his season record to 15-11 and his clay record to 9-2 this season.

Nadal v Goffin Prediction and Tip

Goffin has struggled against Rafa on clay and has taken just one set of him in the previous four meetings on the surface. And given the fact that Nadal has made a strong return to the tour, the chances of an upset seem very low. Expect the Spaniard to win in straight sets.

Tip: Nadal to win in straight sets: 1/2 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
