Ons Jabeur v Jessica Pegula Head to Head

The tally is at an even 2-2 with Jabeur winning their last two meetings. The most recent one took place in the 2022 WTA Dubai where she won in straight sets.

Jabuer in her First WTA 1000 Final

Ons Jabeur continues to make history on the WTA Tour – this time by becoming the first Arab woman to reach a WTA 1000 final.

The drop-shot queen took Madrid by storm as she dismissed a litany of formidable opponents to reach the trophy match. In the opening rounds, the World No. 10 overcame Jasmine Paolini and Varvara Gracheva, facing some resistance.

In round three, she knocked out Belinda Bencic in three sets and built on it with a clinical, 6-3, 6-2 rout of Simona Halep in the quarterfinal. The job was all but done for Jabeur at this point as she overcame Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-2, 6-3 in the semis.

The 27-year-old has been exceptionally brilliant of late; she was a runner-up in Charleston and followed it with a quarterfinal stint in Stuttgart. She is now set to compete in her sixth WTA final (third on clay) and will certainly fancy her chances of going the distance.

After all, Jabeur has a comparatively superior pedigree against her opponent and has been far more consistent in 2022 (19-7 as of Saturday with six quarterfinals).

Pegula Impresses in Madrid

Jessica Pegula has enjoyed a terrific fortnight in Spain as she now finds herself in the biggest singles final of her career.

Her journey has been a relatively easy one, possibly due to the early exits of Maria Sakkari, Naomi Osaka, and Garbine Muguruza. In the opener, the #14-ranked American dismissed Camila Giorgi in three sets – followed by a straight-set win over Kaia Kanepi.

In the third round, Pegula overcame a resurgent Bianca Andreescu with 7-5, 6-1 and then knocked out the local favourite Sara Sorribes Tormo – losing just six games in that match. It was another clinical performance by the 28-year-old in the semifinal – this time with Jil Teichmann (6-3, 6-4).

Pegula will compete in just her fourth WTA final (first one on clay) – a number that may very well be higher by the end of  the season. Earlier in the year, she was a quarterfinalist in the Australian Open and later reached the semis in Miami (defeating Elena Rybakina, Sloane Stephens, and Paula Badosa en route).

Jabeur v Pegula Prediction and Tip

There is no denying that Jabeur is the clear favourite here. More than that, she is much better primed for this match – especially considering her recent, remarkable consistency.

Pegula, on her part, can certainly make life difficult for the Tunisian and push this to three sets. But at the end, this match has Jabeur written all over it.

Tip: Jabeur to win in: 4/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
