Jenson Brooksby v Flavio Cobolli Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the 21-year old American, and his Italian opponent, one year younger.

Brooksby Keen to Improve on Madrid Showing

Brooksby first came to prominence in the first part of last year, when he reached four finals on the Challenger tour, winning three of them, including on the clay of Tallahassee in April.

He then began to play regularly on the main tour and reached his first senior final on the grass of Newport Beach, losing to Kevin Anderson in what proved to be the South African’s last tournament win.

And he began 2022 by reaching his second final, this time going down to compatriot Reilly Opelka in Dallas.

He reached the fourth round at both Indian Wells and Miami, but lost in the first round of Houston on clay, and again last week in Madrid, where he was out-classed by Roberto Bautista-Agut, the first match he had played in Europe this year.

Italian Wildcard Cobolli

Cobolli made his ATP debut on home soil in Parma last year as a wildcard, and beat the American Marcos Giron in the first round to reach a new career high singles ranking.

Two finals on the Challenger Tour after that helped him continue his momentum, and, by the end of the year, he was named as an alternate for the NextGen ATP finals in Milan.

Progress has been maintained this year, and, in March, he won his first Challenger tournament on clay in Croatia, beating the Polish player Dennis Michalski in the final.

He tried and failed to qualify for both Monte Carlo and Belgrade, falling at the final hurdle of the qualification rounds in each case.

But he has already had a taste of playing on Roman clay since, competing in a Challenger event where he got to the semi-finals.

Brooksby v Cobolli Prediction and Tip

Although Cobolli will have the advantage of familiarity with the local conditions, he is still inexperienced at this level, Brooksby, on the other hand, is not a complete novice on clay, and will be keen to improve on his showing in Spain last week.

Tip: Brooksby to win in straight sets: 2/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
