Following a shock second round loss to Julia Grabher at the Istanbul Cup in April, Teichmann had come into her opener in Madrid as a serious underdog. Not surprising too with her opponent been Petra Kvitova.
Not only did Teichmann overcome her Czech rival, she did so in straight sets and then went on a four-match winning streak that took her to the semifinal.
In doing so, the Swiss player defeated Leylah Fernandez, Elena Rybakina and Anhelina Kalinina without dropping a set to set up a meeting with Jessica Pegula. And while Pegula did what she had to do to get past Teichmann and make the final, the world number 35 had done enough to regain some of her lost confidence from Istanbul.
More importantly, Teichmann will begin the new week in Rome ranked 29th in the world – her career-best ranking. Can she continue showing the same form in this tournament too?

Paolini 7-9 This Season on Tour
It’s been a fairly forgettable season so far for Paolini, who has won just seven matches spread across nine competitions.
The world number 46, who has never made it past the second round in this tournament before this, had a season to remember last year as she went on to win her maiden WTA title in Slovenia and added a WTA $125k tournament win as well.
This year, however, Paolini has failed to get going with a quarterfinal appearance at Lyon and a third round entry at Indian Wells being the only couple of performances worth a mention.
As opposed to that, the Italian has lost two of her three matches on clay this season but to be fair to her, those losses came at the hands of Pegula and Ons Jabeur – two very solid players on the red dirt, having also contested the final in Madrid last week.
