Inconsistent Garin Searching for Form
Chile’s Cristian Garin has been struggling this season. The 25-year-old World no. 39 brings a 7-11 season record to Rome.
He got two wins at the Australian Open; then surprisingly lost all three of his matches at the South American clay season before hitting form in Houston. Garin won three three-setters to reach the semifinals, but fell in the fourth three-setter of the tournament.
The clay court specialist then suffered back-to-back first round exits in Belgrade and Munich, but played well in the first round in Madrid to oust Estoril finalist Frances Tiafoe in straight sets.
But just when things started to look better for him he was outplayed by Felix Auger-Alissime in straight sets.
A five-time winner on the tour, Garin is yet to impress in Rome. He is 1-2 from the last two years and will be desperate to string a few wins together this year.

Passaro Making his Debut
World no. 366 Francesco Passaro will be making his singles debut on the tour on Sunday.
The 21-year-old Italian is has featured in two ITF and one Challenger finals this year. In the Challenger final last month in Sanremo, Passaro came through the qualifying rounds and won four consecutive rounds before falling to Holger Rune in the final.
Of the two ITF finals, Passao won one and lost the other, both were played on hard courts in Monastir, Tunisia.
On the ITF circuit, he is a three time champion from four finals, winning two of those titles on clay. He will surely be looking to impress the home crowd on debut.
